Product Information: According to Greek mythology, Poseidon (god of the sea) resided in a palace made of coral and gems, while Hephaestus (god of crafts) first crafted his work from coral. The trade of Precious Coral dates to the 1st millennium and it was highly prized as a substance believed to be endowed with mysterious sacred properties. Adored by the ancient Egyptians, the Romans especially believed coral could protect from harm.
These small gold finished hoop earrings showcase hand-carved coral amphora shaped pendants. Beautifully presented in Maximos Jewellery packaging.
An amphora is a type of container of a characteristic shape and size, descending from at least as early as the Neolithic Period. Amphorae were used in vast numbers for the transport and storage of various products, both liquid and dry, but mostly for wine.
Jeweller Bio: Inspired by his Greek heritage, Maximos Zachariadis first designed the Amphora Collection for the British Museum. This collection of jewellery is hand-carved, with items created in semiprecious stones, lapis lazuli, mother of pearl, coral, turquoise and in 925’ silver in 22 carat gold finish in the shape of an amphora.
